As our State Senator, Scott is bringing commonsense leadership to Harrisburg…uniting people to achieve positive results and make Pennsylvania better.
As our Senator, Scott is keeping his word. Whether it’s refusing the taxpayer-paid defined pension and per diems, working to protect our tax dollars, fighting for a stronger education system, or so much more, he is focusing on the issues that affect all of us.
Scott has always been a small government, fiscal conservative – historically reducing the the size of county government and reducing debt as a County Commissioner and stopping Tom Wolf’s big tax-and-spend increases as Senator. He also refuses the taxpayer-paid defined benefit pension and passed landmark pension reform to save billions of dollars. Today, he’s continuing to bring the strongest fiscal discipline to government so taxpayers keep more and government does more with less.
- Focusing the state budget on our priorities – like education and public safety – to make sure our taxes are spent wisely
- Stopping disastrous deficit-spending budgets to combat inflation and ensure a strong financial future
- Holding spending in check and reducing state debt to protect future generations
- Investing in the state’s Rainy Day Fund to help prevent tax increases in times of economic downturn
- Leading by example by refusing the taxpayer-paid defined benefit pension, per diems and perks
Government doesn’t create jobs…people do, especially small business people. That’s something Scott understands as a small business owner himself. In the State Senate, he is fighting for reforms that reignite our economy and job creation – so every Pennsylvanian has the opportunity for financial stability and success. It’s nothing new: he’s already supported smart initiatives to reopen our economy, support ag and energy, and cut red-tape and over-regulation.
- Working to reduce PA’s highest in the nation corporate income tax to make us competitive with other states and attract new job creators
- Fighting for PA’s energy sector to strengthen the energy grid, grow our economy, help create jobs, and make energy more affordable for families.
- Supporting career and technical education that provides Pennsylvanians with the skills to secure high-paying jobs
- Helping our agricultural community and farm-based businesses by providing them more flexibility, helping relieve the costs of federal mandates, and more
- Streamlining regulations to make Pennsylvania a fair, predictable, and consistent place to do business
Every child in PA deserves an excellent education that prepares them for success, but for too long too many have been blocked out by the entrenched bureaucracy that controls our schools. In the Senate, Scott is leading the effort for strong funding for all schools – and initiatives that provide real choice in education so parents are put back in charge.
- Delivering record investment for both traditional public education and choice initiatives to provide every child the opportunity for success in life
- Focusing on fundamental skills in math, reading, science, and technology that children need to succeed – no more teaching to tests
- Authoring the law that created the highly recognized “Safe2Say” Program that has empowered students and teachers to report possibly dangerous behaviors, and with new School Safety grants – all to make our schools safer for our children
- Reforming the school funding formula to make certain that all school districts are treated fairly
- Utilizing technology to enhance student learning and provide greater access to tutoring, AP courses, courses not available at local schools, online learning, SAT prep, etc.
- Supporting vocational and skills-based education that provides needed skills (at a lower cost) to obtain good-paying jobs that provide for lifelong success
Scott understands how important healthcare is to everyone who lives in the 13th District and across Pennsylvania. As Senator, he’s taken real action – and achieved real results – to make healthcare more accessible and affordable.
- Passing a bipartisan law to reduce the cost of prescription drugs
- Winning the fight for PA’s first Pediatric Cancer Research Fund to find new cancer treatments – and hopefully a cure – for those children and families battling this horrible disease
- Supporting tele-medicine that improves preventative care and accessibility, and helps to reduce healthcare costs for consumers
- Improving rural healthcare to ensure continued access to health services for rural residents
- Authoring legislation to reduce Medicaid fraud so more dollars can go to people who truly need their services
- Supporting commonsense reforms to expand access and control costs like allowing small businesses and the self-employed to join purchasing pools
- Promoting mental health initiatives to help improve communication between hospital emergency rooms and psychiatric units, improve access to needed services for those suffering from mental health afflictions, and expand mental health services available in PA’s communities and schools
Scott knows that being Senator is about more than just voting in Harrisburg – it’s about helping meet the needs of our local communities to preserve and improve our quality of life. That’s exactly what he’s doing.
- Supporting our law enforcement, fire fighters and EMTs both for the work they do and with the tools they need to help keep us safe
- Authored the Constitutional Amendment – passed by PA residents – that holds the Executive Branch accountable to citizens during times of declared emergency – forcing governors to share information, justify decisions, and collaborate with the General Assembly and local officials
- Fighting for secure elections by voting for initiatives like Voter ID, banning third-party funding of official election activities, and requiring voting safeguards like signature requirements, deadlines, and more
- Passing bipartisan initiatives to address the opioid epidemic and save lives by focusing on treatment for those trapped in addiction and stiff penalties for drug dealers
- Increasing local authority over gambling by passing a law allowing local municipalities to opt-out of video gaming terminals
- Supporting our agricultural community through initiatives that protect our communities and economy from the devastating Avian Influenza, provide family farms and agri-businesses more flexibility, help relieve the costs of federal mandates, and more
- Securing important grant funding for local projects and making sure we get back more of their tax dollars from Harrisburg
- Supporting smart redistricting reform and an independent commission to draw legislative district lines and take politics out of the process
