Pennsylvania Through & Through
Scott Martin is Pennsylvania through and through. His grandparents settled in the Philadelphia area after returning from the frontlines of World War II, and his parents moved to Lancaster County after his father completed his Navy service when Scott was 15 months old. His dad was career law enforcement and his mom a Catholic School teacher. Together they worked hard to provide for Scott and his six siblings while instilling in each the core values that have guided Scott his entire life. Today, Scott still lives in Lancaster County with his wife, Amber, their four children and six dogs and cats.
Success Through Hard Work
Blessed early in life with natural athletic talent, Scott put in the hard work to become a PIAA and National Heavyweight wrestling champion at Lancaster Catholic. He then attended Millersville University where he graduated with a degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice and became a three-time First Team PSAC Defensive Tackle and two-time NCAA All-American.
The lessons Scott learned on the wrestling mat and football field about focusing on the basics, putting in the work to get better, and learning the details that allow you to be even better – have served Scott well in the professional and public service world.
Before entering public service, Scott was successful in the private sector as a licensed Realtor and local landlord. He then went on to become the Director of Lancaster County’s Youth Intervention Center, where he oversaw the effective operation of a $5.5 million budget, 150 employee organization. Today, he continues his work as a small business owner with his wife, Amber, helping to create jobs for others and grow our economy.
An Effective & Conservative Public Servant
In 2007, Scott was elected as Lancaster County Commissioner to clean up what had become a dysfunctional and ineffective government. There, Scott never voted for a tax increase, downsized government by cutting duplicative agencies and departments, reduced debt by $40 million, and reduced costs for taxpayers through privatization and public employee benefit reform. Scott then honored his self-imposed term limit pledge and returned to the private sector.
In 2016, the people of Lancaster County turned to Scott once again…this time to be their voice in the State Senate. As Senator, he has kept his word to bring common sense and conservative principles to the forefront and focus on the issues that matter to our community: protecting taxpayers, supporting educational opportunity and choice, preserving our agricultural community, helping small business job creators grow our economy, and much more.
Scott’s continued commitment to hard work and his ability to bring together people has resulted in 27 pieces of legislation he authored being included in new law – including the enabling legislation for the May 2021 ballot initiative that helped provide Pennsylvania’s citizens a stronger voice by limiting the Governor’s powers during declared emergencies by restoring the Constitutionally mandated balance of powers in state government.
The work to focus on WHAT we spend tax dollars on, not just how much.
The work to ensure public safety across the state – regardless of neighborhood or income.
The work to achieve the conservative results that will make life just a little easier for you…because he knows no one works harder than you for yourself and your family.
The work to focus on local schools and give every parent choice and every student the opportunity for success.
